Sapulpa Parks planning grand opening for new inclusive playground

Sapulpa Parks has announced a grand opening for the new “Everyday Heroes” Inclusive Playground that has finished construction at Liberty Park, according to a statement on the Parks and Recreation Department Facebook Page.

The grand opening will begin at 11:00 a.m. on August 28th and feature a Family Resource Fair, food trucks, a “touch-a-truck” event, and more activities for the whole family.

The $600K project is part of the $40 million bond issue passed last year by the citizens of Sapulpa and is the brainchild of former Parks Director Jody Baker. In April, Baker told Sapulpa Times that the new playground was the first of its kind in the area, and only the second of its kind in the whole state.

“It includes everyone—all abilities, all ages, everyone,” Baker said. “It is for those not just with physical limitations, but also cognitive, social—every kid can find a place to play on this playground.”

In the Facebook announcement, the Sapulpa Parks Department touted the inclusive playground at Liberty Park as incorporating “all seven Principles of Inclusive Playground Design while celebrating the hero within each of us.”

“Our new playground provides an intergenerational, inclusive space with an emphasis on age-appropriate, graduated challenges for all ages and abilities,” it said.
