Sapulpa Parks and Recreation continues to update current facilities while planning expansions.
During the Jan. 10 meeting, the Parks Board voted to approve the application for a $400,000 Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) Grant. The funds from the 80/20 grant will be used to build a bridge over Biven Creek in phase 3 of the walking path project, the Trails at Rock Creek.
When the walking path is complete, it will connect Kelly Lane Park to the Youth Sports Complex, the new baseball and soccer fields east of Jefferson Heights Elementary.
A water flow test is currently planned for Kelly Lane Park to determine the water pressure and best location for the new splash pad. The location of the splash pad will determine the location of a pedestrian bridge to connect to the paved walking path under Main Street.
Phase 2 of the sports complex is now completed and the start of phase 3 will complete the fields, parking, and concession stand.
The resurfacing of the public pool is underway and will be completed by summer.
McGoy Park playground and the restroom at Sahoma Lake are progressing.
The trails are being cut at the Aaron’s Angel recreation area, located on Sahoma Lake Road, and the gate and the parking lot is installed. The five-acre private residence has been fenced off from the public area. They hope to have it open in mid to late February.
Trout season and the stocking of Pretty Water Lake is underway. The first stocking took place on Dec. 28 and the next stocking is scheduled for Feb. 8.
Sapulpa Parks and Recreation are currently looking for a Bait Shop concessioner. At this time, the required fishing license can be purchased at the Sapulpa and Sand Springs sporting goods counters.
The updating of the Kelly Lane Disc Golf course is underway and tournaments continue on Sundays.
The Sapulpa Park Friends Foundation approved the $100,000 matching funds for the 80/20 TAP Grant if awarded to Sapulpa Parks in April.
The board is planning a memorial fountain in honor of the late Charles Bundrick. It may be located near the new splash pad or sports park.
