Heat, Humidity and a long haired, stubborn preschooler don’t mix!
Sapulpa mom Tami Gomez, didn’t intend on going into business when she started making charmed headbands for her daughter, Jacey. She saw a way to make something better and took matters into her own hands.
Now however, Tami’s headbands are in high demand.

“Jacey had a hard time putting anything in her hair. Every morning she would fight me to put her hair up and it became frustrating for both of us. She would wake up in the morning, I would brush her hair and 5 minutes later it was falling in her face. Halfway through the day, it
looked like she had been through a tornado,” Gomez said.
“I knew there had to be some way to fix the problem so I started playing around with different headbands and some cute charms. My kitchen looked like a workshop; I had a drill, glue guns, wire cutters—you name it and it was on the table.”
The result was a one-of-a-kind, charmed headband that her daughter went crazy over. “She won’t take them off and is always asking me to make her more,” she said.
Some of Gomez’s Facebook friends liked her handiwork, and were soon buying them from her. They also encouraged her to go into business.
Now Gomez orders special charms from California, handcrafts about 50 headbands a week and is running an online store.
“I started the business less than 60 days ago and it’s been a whirlwind. Everything is happening so fast. I have customers all over the U.S. and am receiving inquiries all the time. I just received my first wholesale account which is really exciting,” she said.
In addition to online, her CharmHeads headbands are available at Reece’s Corner in Sapulpa, with more retail locations expected to be added soon. She also goes to various shows throughout the year and will be at the South Tulsa County Community Day of Caring event in Bixby, OK on September 24, 2016.
“Even though Jacey is only 5 years old, she loves to help me create the headbands,” Gomez said. “It’s been neat to show her how running a small business works.”
Everything for the headbands is done at home. Gomez estimates that she handcrafts close to 50 headbands a week.
“People really love how unique they are. We are the only company in the world that makes charmed headbands so we had to hurry and file a Provisional Patent and Trademark,” she said.
Gomez says her future plans include expanding to sell the headbands in other U.S. retail locations. “We very excited to announce that we have submitted our application to appear on ABC’s Shark Tank and it’s currently being reviewed by the casting director,” she said.
“I’m having a lot of fun with it, while staying home and even involving my daughter. It’s been great!”
