Sapulpa police arrested a man on May 11th for what they say is “felony discharge of a firearm,” after the man shot through his own windows into a house and car nearby.
According to the arrest affidavit, 66-year-old Ricky Ray Rooks was arrested at his home on S. Cedar Street after police responded to reports of gunshots in the vicinity.
When officers arrived at the scene at about 8:45 pm, they say Rooks exited the house wearing what they described as a “camouflage tactical load bearing vest, with six AR-15 style loaded rifle magazines,” according to the affidavit.
Rooks told police he believed someone was trying to break into his house, so he fired four shots from his rifle through his living room windows. Police found five bullet holes in his windows, all believed to have come from inside the residence, as the broken glass was on the outside.
Police say they found four bullet holes struck a nearby residence, one of which went through the living room window and into the back of a couch. Another two bullet holes were found in a silver-colored BMW 325 that was parked in the front yard of the residence.
A search of Rooks’ house turned up a Colt AR-15 rifle on the living room couch with a loaded magazine laying next to the gun, according to the arrest affidavit. Police also located five spent casings on the living room and hallway floor.
According to the report, Rooks has no previous criminal history.
