The Sapulpa Lady Chieftains basketball team season came to an abrupt end today as the school unveiled a “very disappointing outcome” involving an ineligible player at last night’s regional game against Putnam City West.
According to a statement sent to staff and parents, the discovery of an ineligible player came during the game and was reported the next morning to the OSSAA.
The school submitted an appeal and an explanation, but was ultimately denied, bringing an end to the season.
The circumstance regarding the shortened season is disappointing, but the school maintains their respect for the team. “We are extremely proud of our team and the effort, commitment, and character they have demonstrated throughout the season,” the statement said.

Dear Chieftain Family,
During last night’s regional girls’ basketball game, we discovered that an ineligible player participated in the contest. This morning, we immediately self-reported the issue to the OSSAA and the Putnam City athletic director. We were directed to submit an appeal, which included an explanation of the situation. We submitted the appeal along with self-imposed sanctions to them this afternoon.
The OSSAA has denied the appeal and ruled that the game must be forfeited. As a result, our season has come to an end.
This is a very disappointing outcome for our student-athletes, coaches, and families. We are extremely proud of our team and the effort, commitment, and character they have demonstrated throughout the season.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Sapulpa Public Schools
