It’s been a whirlwind of activity for the students at Sapulpa’s High and Junior High Schools this week.
After postponing all evening activities at the campus on Tuesday due to a gas odor, the school was back in session for a few hours on Wednesday morning before “a natural gas odor” again caused the school to take action and evacuate students to the Chieftain Center.
According to the school’s official statement, the problem related to the odor is “isolated to one furnace” and that Oklahoma Natural Gas was assessing the situation to help school officials determine the next course of action.
Students were to remain at the Chieftain Center for the remainder of the school day unless a parent could pick them up, at which point, the absence would not be counted against them.
Just before 1 pm on Wednesday, Sapulpa Schools notified parents that students at the High School, Junior High and Bartlett Academy would all be moved to Distance Learning for Thursday while ONG continued to test the gas lines at the campus.
See the school’s full statement below.
