Sapulpa FFA’s Summer of Skill Building and Service

Sapulpa FFA members stayed busy this summer by growing their skills and leadership through various leadership camps, conferences, and activities. Students traveled the state meeting other young people who have similar interests and goals as them.

Two students attended Alumni Leadership Camp at Camp Tulakogee. During Alumni Camp, Leo Enlow and Olivia Harris learned about change, growth, and friendships through renowned speakers and lessons.

“I feel so fortunate to attend Alumni camp for the first time. I learned so much about myself and how to be a leader,” Olivia Harris said. Chapter officers, Sophie Rupert and Olivia Harris attended the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Ignite Communications Conference in Edmond. They spent the day learning about four vital subjects: videography, design, social media, and photography and how to make the chapter’s image better, as well as learning about how students should build their own brand.

Many members dedicated time to attending skill-building camps as well. Finley Yocham participated in the Oklahoma State University Livestock Judging Camp in Stillwater, learning how to sort and identify high-quality livestock.

Four chapter members attended Meat Judging Camp at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, where they strengthened their skills for the Meat Judging Career Development Event. Carter Coble, Leo Enlow, Roman Roth, and Ridge Rose not only spent time learning about the event but also bonding as teammates. Ridge Rose noted, “I feel that Meat Judging is a very beneficial CDE for my future.”

At the end of the camp contest and awards banquet, Leo Enlow was awarded 3rd place individual for his placing at the contest. Poultry Judging Camp produced similar results at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton as well; members Rex Harris, Alex Morgan, Chi Porter, Zeke Porter, and Reid Rose learned about this important CDE and had fun along the way. Also at Eastern Oklahoma State College was the Auctioneering Camp attended by Leo Enlow. There, he refined his auctioneer skills and continues to improve.

At Conner’s State College in Warner, Leo and Allie Enlow attended goat camp and spent three days perfecting their showing, grooming, and nutrition abilities in showing goats.

Offering their time and service, members Carter Coble, Alli Dean, Leo Enlow, Olivia Harris, Zeke Porter, Sophie Rupert, Reid Rose, Ridge Rose, Mikaylah Shouse, and Finley Yocham sold sweet corn in Sapulpa. The members’ efforts were greatly valued as they raised money to take students to upcoming contests, conferences, and other activities.

After a summer of continuous skill building and service, Sapulpa FFA looks forward to another year of growth and success.
