Sapulpa falls to Yukon Millers in 40-0 shutout

A Sapulpa Chieftain defense repeatedly faltered to the Yukon Millers, allowing 40 points and scoring none.

We knew going into it that this was going to be a defensive game, especially since Sapulpa is missing its starting quarterback, who is currently out with an injury, but hopefully not for long.

At the end of the first half, Yukon is leading the Chieftains 21-0 in a game that has certainly been defensive, but less so for Yukon, who has had 3 drives for 3 scores.

Sapulpa’s has struggle to move the ball has been evident when you look at Yukon’s total offensive yards at 223 compared to Sapulpa’s 37 total yards by the time the band took the field.

The third quarter began with a fresh team that seemed ready to make some moves, but the momentum was cut short after they threw an interception in first possession of half.

They were then able to hold Yukon near  the end zone and keep them from scoring at 4th and 3rd, but the offensive progress stalled, and Sapulpa was forced to punt in their own end zone.

Yukon turned their next possession into a TD. A missed kick put the score at 27-0 with 3:13 in the 3rd. After another 4 downs, the ball is back to the Millers and they scored again on a pass. Again, the kick is blocked, with the score now at 33-0 going into the 4th.

With 8:13 left in the game, Yukon picked up another TD. This time the kick was good, bringing the score to 40-0.

Sapulpa defense held the Millers to that score, but walked away with hopes for a better result next week.

Sapulpa plays Grove next and will be on the road on September 19th. You can watch the game live on the Chieftain Television YouTube channel.
