Sapulpa City City council met at 6pm on Monday evening to acknowledge the results of the recent election, which led to the introduction of new Ward 5 City Councilor Bruce Bledsoe who won the seat of the departing Alan Jones, who has served as a City Councilor since 1998.
In an official proclamation, Mayor Reg Green read “The city of Sapulpa is one of the great cities in Oklahoma and acknowledging the greatness of a city must be attributed in large part to the devoted service of our city councilors.”
Green then stood to recognize Jones for his dedication and service to the role he’d played for so long, including his time the Committee of Administration and Finance.
“There are some finance meetings that I wish had gone a little faster,” Green said to chuckles from those present on Monday evening, “but I know that there is a sincere appreciation for Alan, and for his efforts.”
Jones stood to thank everyone for “giving me the honor to serve all these years.”
“I haven’t even met the man who’s replacing me yet, but I’m going to on my way out,” Jones said.
And sure enough, after receiving his plaque from the Mayor, a standing applause from all present, and a round of handshakes and back-slaps from his fellow council members, Alan Jones walked down the aisle and held out a hand to Bledsoe.
“Good luck,” he said to Bledsoe. “I know a great many people in your area, so please let me know if I can ever be of any assistance.”
Later that evening, the vacant spot in the Standing Committee of Administration and Finance was appointed by Mayor Green to be filled by Councilor Craig Henderson.
