Rock the Block gets a new name and more new reasons to go this summer

The popular Rock the Block concert series held during the summer season by Main Street Sapulpa is getting a name change this year and putting down new roots—uh, routes.

Starting this year, the name of the event will change from Rock the Block to Rock the Route and will have a few new and improved features, Main Street Sapulpa Director Cindy McDonald told Sapulpa Times on Thursday.

The recurrent event was held on the third thursday of each month and featured food trucks, classic cars, games, and a band, performing from a stage located in a parking lot at the corner of Park and Hobson streets.

Most of those items will not be changing, except to get bigger. McDonald says they’re looking to have more food trucks, more games, more opportunities to shop, including a brand new addition for this year—vendors!

The new Rock the Route events will continue to happen on the third Thursday of each month, and the dates have been officially released, starting May the 16th. The other dates are June the 20th, July the 18th, and August the 15th.

Aside from the vendors, the only other major change is the decision to push the starting time from 6pm to 6:30pm—a result of watching the crowd last year. McDonald says after watching so many folks who would come but show up late, they wanted to give the concert-goers more time to get to the event, thus the new starting time. The concerts will also wrap up a bit later at 8:30pm.

McDonald says they have a couple of bands they’re talking to for the coming season—including some great local talent—but nothing’s finalized yet. Vendor applications are expected to be released closer to starting time.
