Captain Foreman said the suspect approached the victim, asked his name, and when he replied, Foreman said the suspect pulled out a pistol and shot the ground near the victim, before turning to flee.

Police say it was a single shot and that nobody was injured. Police are currently looking for the suspect, said to be between the ages 13-15, with blonde hair that was tied up in a ponytail. He was wearing a gray t-shirt, and shorts and shoes of an unknown color.

Police had a drone searching the area, and are asking the public to check their security cameras and keep an eye out for suspicious activity. If you see anything, report it to the Sapulpa police.

Superintendent: “We’re all shaken.”

Superintendent Robert Armstrong spoke to the media on the scene following the incident. He said that although high school students had been dismissed by that time, there were Middle School students that were traveling Watchorn. They were rounded up and put in the Chieftain Center for their safety until they could be released.

The football team is traveling to Capitol Hill tonight, so nobody was on the field at the time of the shooting.

Armstrong said the response was quick and decisive, as it should be.

“You move quickly to secure and to attend aid, if you need to; thankfully, there was no harmed or injured. Obviously, a thousand things go through your mind.”

Armstrong said that Sapulpa is fortunate to have school resource officers, and undercover police on campus “all the time.” Nevertheless, he said that for the time being, Sapulpa schools will see even more security.

“We’ll respond and tend to and take care of, and on Monday, we’ll have an increased presence of security in all of our schools,” he said.

He also commended the students who he believes did the right thing by telling the school resource officer about the incident. “We appreciate the students that did hear it, they ran back and they told an officer, and that officer responded as quickly as they could.”
