It’s nothing new to see teachers outside of Sapulpa High School on a Thursday morning, but given the weather, these teachers were proving a special point: resilience.
In the chilly, blustery wind of Thursday morning, over a dozen teachers from the region grouped together at the half-wall of brick where Mission Street meets Dewey Avenue near the North side of Sapulpa.
Some had gotten there around 9am in the morning, some a little earlier. Administrators like Principal Seth Shibley, Athletic Director Jason Parker and even Superintendent Rob Armstrong and Assistant Super Johnny Bilby were out there in the cold, waving at the cars and showing their support.
It wasn’t just Sapulpa teachers, either. Sharon Cahwee is a Special Education Teacher from Union who was braving the wind with her two grandsons, one in first grade and the other in Pre-K. They held cardboard signs that said “My teachers are fighting 4 me,” and “I miss my teacher.”
We’re now into day five of the teacher walkout, and although certain measures have been met, it’s unclear if it will be enough to persuade the teachers to return to their classrooms.
