Oklahoma Representative and Senator step out in support of Mounds Police Chief

Mounds Police Chief Antonio Porter recently came under fire from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) because he’s been posting bible verses to the department’s Facebook Page.

The ACLU sent a formal statement to the Mayor of Mounds, saying that the posts Porter has been making are unconstitutional and should be discontinued, saying “Sharing Bible verses, asking citizens to pray, and providing resources for Bible study directly supports and advocates for the Christian religion. These posts serve no secular purpose…”

The Oklahoma ACLU has threatened the Mayor with legal action should the posts not cease.

Thankfully, the Police Chief is gaining some support, including from Representative Mark Lawson and Senator James Leewright. They jointly issued a formal letter of support, saying that “we admire the courage you are showing in the face of tenacity.”

They also included a Bible Verse of their own from Matthew, Chapter 5:

“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.”
