Oklahoma House Speaker Kyle Hilbert removes Rep. Pittman from committee following allegations of misconduct

Oklahoma Speaker of the House Kyle Hilbert has commented on the investigation into 99th District Representative Ajay Pittman and confirmed that she’s been removed from at least one committee following misconduct allegations.

Pittman, who was elected to her fourth term in 2024 to represent House District 99, had her fifth-floor office searched by the attorney general’s office, according to local news outlet KOCO. The search warrant was sealed, so no other details were given at the time.

That same day, the Oklahoma Ethics Commission filed a lawsuit accusing Pittman of faking documents regarding an investigation into campaign finance violations.

According to NonDoc, the claim alleges that a letter submitted by Ajay Pittman stating that water damage had destroyed her campaign finance records—purportedly written by her former building manager—was actually written by her mother, former Senator Anastasia Pittman.

The lawsuit is the latest update in a series of misconduct allegations stemming from campaign violations that Pittman admitted to in 2024 and agreed to repay with her personal funds. The ethics commission lawsuit also alleges that Pittman tried to deceive the commission by paying with a “not genuine” cashier’s check that didn’t come from her personal funds, but through a “campaign donation check willfully disguised through the use of a fake check to appear as if it were her own money.”

After the Attorney General’s Office confirmed an investigation into the allegations, House Speaker Kyle Hilbert released a statement regarding Pittman’s removal from a committee. “While that investigation remains ongoing, the recent findings from the Ethics Commission make it inappropriate for her to continue serving in a role overseeing State-Tribal relations,” Hilbert said. “Therefore, I have removed Rep. Pittman from the State-Tribal Relations Committee, effective immediately.”

According to her profile on the Oklahoma House of Representatives website, Pittman still serves on several other committees.

Last July, Ajay Pittman was named Public Servant of the Year by the Women of Color Expo.
