William Russell “Rusty” Hammons, 66, died August 6, 2021, at his home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Hammons attended McLain High School in North Tulsa and worked his entire career (30+ years) at Crane Carrier of Tulsa where he was also a proud member of United Steelworkers of America Local 6157.
Rusty was well-known to enjoy roller skating and worked part time as a floor guard at Ricks Rollerina in Owasso in the late 80’s and 90’s as well as the Star Lite Rink in Sapulpa. He was a popular figure anytime he was on the floor, teaching many children how to skate over the years.
Rusty devoted a lot of his time to repairing, tinkering and building, a man of an era gone by. His other interests included gardening and botany, with many courses completed at Tulsa Community College to help him grow the best tomatoes and peppers for his pickled jalepenos and family-recipe salsa. Rusty also loved animals, he was a 6 foot-6 inch Steelworker who carried a 5lb Pomeranian everywhere for years and was surrounded by his pets when he passed.
Rusty is survived by his wife Jimmie Gaskins-Hammons (Sapulpa, OK), daughters Brandy Hammons (Tulsa, OK) and Lindsay Sparks (Tulsa, OK), granddaughter, Preslee Sparks (Tulsa, OK), sister Linda Hammons (Tulsa, OK), former spouse Judy Hammons (Tulsa, Ok), step-children Tommy Plumlee (Sapulpa, OK) and Anna Plumlee (Sapulpa, OK). He was preceded in death by his parents Lena & Carson Hammons and brother Kim Hilderbrand. No services at this time, a small celebration of life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
