Tracy W. Johnson, 77, of Red Oak passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 at his home.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Phillip Free speaking. The burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cory Johnson, Conner Johnson, Addison Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Chase Brooks and Corbin Matlock. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Garner, Huey White, Larry Mabry, Murphy Muncy, Joe Benson and Kenneth Montgomery.
Tracy was born August 5, 1941 in Lodi, Oklahoma to Coke L. Johnson and Lucy (Whitmore) Johnson. He married Marjorie Muncy Rutledge on January 21, 2005 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Tracy graduated from Red Oak High School with the Class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 – 1965 and was honorably discharged. He received his Bachelor of Art degree in Education 1969 and his Master’s of Science degree in 1971 from Southeastern Oklahoma State College. He began teaching science and coaching basketball in 1970 for Stringtown. In 1979, he began his teaching and coaching career at Hartshorne High School until his retirement in 2003. Coach Johnson was a successful coach. His first year of coaching, his team went to the State Basketball Tournament and the following year won State while he was at Stringtown. During his coaching years at Hartshorne, he coached both of his sons, Monte and Roger.
Tracy enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, collecting arrowheads and Indian artifacts, fishing, taking bus trips all around the country with Margie and teasing and giving people a hard time. He will be forever remembered by his witty sense of humor, his love of people and helping those in need, and his die hard Democratic values.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Coke and Lucy Johnson; sister, Virginia Barbour; brother, Carol Johnson; and, brother-in-law, Phillip Free.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Johnson of the home; sons, Monte Johnson and wife, Brenda of Allen and Roger Johnson and wife, Jill of Sapulpa; step-sons, Ryan Rutledge and wife, Clara of Calera and Duke Muncy of Red Oak; grandchildren, Cassie Johnson and Jacob Barney of Allen, Cory Johnson of Allen, Conner Johnson and wife, Jacklyn of Alex, Addison Johnson and Tanner Johnson both of Sapulpa; Abby Muncy, Bella Muncy and Lilly Muncy all of Red Oak; great-grandchildren, Hattie, Ryder and Caleb; sisters, Erma Free of Red Oak and Linda Cronkrite and husband, Billy of Hurst, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
