Steven Ray Billings was born May 25, 1977, to Sam and Carolyne Billings and his two big sisters, Ginger and Sammie. He passed away after a brief illness on March 22, 2022, at 44 years of age.
From the moment he could walk, he was playing football and watching games with his family. He was an avid Sooner fan and could quote statistics- even to the point of telling you which high school an athlete went to and what number they wore. He even named his dog Kyler Murray after an OU quarterback.
Dad, who was a Washington Redskins fan, did his best to discourage him from it but lost the battle when Steven became a Dallas Cowboy fan at a young age.
Besides football he loved spending his time playing golf as much as possible, playing pool, and basketball.
Steven managed Spectrum Paint until 2015 when he lovingly chose to become the full-time caregiver for his father until his health would no longer allow it in December 2020.
Steven was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and he was so happy to have recently returned to his faith after many years of walking a different path.
Steven had many friends, and he will be missed by all of them, including his life-long friends: Sam Arnold, Dustin Penn, Jonathan Nelson, Matt Ward, Jason Holloway, Seth Peck, Brandy Ronish Gray, and Tiffany Ronish Riddle as well as David Charles, Linda Graves, and so many others too numerous to mention.
He is survived by his father and best friend, Sam Billings, as well as his two bonus moms and sisters, Ginger Schochler and Sammie Christensen and her husband, Skeet. The joy of his life were his nieces and nephew: Kaitlyn Schochler, Dillon Christensen and his wife, Jara, Cassandra Schochler, Samara Christensen Barajas and her husband, Angel, and Alyssa Ray Schochler. Also surviving him are his aunts, one uncle, numerous cousins, friends, and his dog, Kyler.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyne White Billings, and his grandparents: Eldon Ray Billings, Lillie Johnston Billings Pitts, Fred Carroll White and Freda Brimage White Shaw, as well as two aunts he was especially close to: Sharon White Cope and Patsy Billings Brookshire, and his “other” dad, Terry Arnold.
Steven’s death has left a hole in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be missed every day until we see him again. Sooner football just won’t be quite the same without our son, brother and friend.
His memorial services will be on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 2 pm by Zoom. If you would like to watch the live feed, please contact Ginger at gschochler@att.net or Sammie at soonerladybug@gmail.com
