Sheryl Zabsky

It was a lovely fall day in Wichita, Kansas when Sheryl Ann Martin joined the world on November 28, 1949, and on a cool morning on Aug 20, 2022, she passed peacefully from this world, after a long illness.

At the age of 7 Sheryl and her family moved to Los Angeles, California. While in California, she graduated from Eagle Rock High School, in 1967. She was a member of her High School Drill Team and learned how to drive in the parking lot of the Rose Bowl Stadium. After a couple of years working in California for NCR, she moved with her family to Seneca, Missouri as her father had started a new family business.

While in Missouri, perfecting her bookkeeping talents, she worked at Pet Milk and Mays City where she met her favorite sparring partner and love of her life, Joe Zabsky. Marrying November 29, 1974, they started their family with daughter Amanda Zabsky Holt in 1976. They moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma in 1978 and son Andrew Zabsky arrived after they were settled in 1982.

While being a stay-at-home mom, she spent her time lovingly threatening her menacing children and running them from dance to cheer, football, baseball, and basketball. As the children grew older and needed less of a chauffeur, she worked part-time for H&R Block for a few years.

Sheryl was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Tops Club for several years and Tri-County Baseball Secretary for 2 years. She enjoyed spending nights at the casino with her husband and gleefully beating her challengers at any game of cards. She took special joy in wiping the floor with her daughter during spirited games of Bunco. She was a die-hard L.A. Dodger’s, KC Chiefs, and Oklahoma State Cowboys fan and no one dared to argue with her about her teams, even though a couple of her grandkids liked to row with her about them just because they knew it would make her laugh.

Unedited and feisty, she did not suffer fools gladly. Strong in her beliefs, she lovingly and happily provided a safe space for all individuals before it was popular to do so.

Always a loving mother, she found her greatest joy and love in her grandchildren, Alex (17), Aaron (13), Cylas (12) and Seton (8). These 4 boys were the light of her life, and she always did her best to attend any event they had going on. She was always there for them whether it be chauffeuring, helping fundraise or cheering them on at their games.

As a testament of her strength, Sheryl was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her father George Martin, mother Joan Fehl Martin, older sister Karen Lee (Martin) Scheidel, and younger brother Randy Eugene Martin.

She is survived by her loving husband Joe, daughter Amanda (Zabsky) Holt of Glenpool, son Andrew (Haley) Zabsky of North Bend, OH, grandsons Alex & Aaron Holt, Cylas & Seton Zabsky, brothers-in-law Harold Zabsky of Miami, Fl, and John Zabsky of Fallbrook, CA, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, a host of loving and adoring friends and last but not least her Grand Fur babies, Olive, Buzz ,Zeus, and the one she loved the most the cat Zoe.

In lieu of flowers, we asked her if she wanted donations made in her honor to the Democratic National Committee she laughed and said YES but thought you might prefer to honor her by donating to the American Diabetes Association or St. Jude’s.

Memorial Services will be Saturday September 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Traditions Funeral Chapel, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, Oklahoma
