Roman Watashe

Born January 25, 1937 to James Watashe and Hattie Barnett Watashe in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. At 11:50 pm on January 28, 2019, Roman left this world to join his loving wife, Martha; mother and father; brothers, James Watashe, Jr, Louis Watashe Lawrence Watashe, Dorothy Watashe Lee and Andrew Watashe; step-son, Eli Marshall and wife, Sally Motto Marshall; granddaughter, Ashley Marie Watashe; his Grandfather Watashe (Painkiller); and Grandmother, Rosa Holder Watashe.
Roman succumbed after lengthy illness at St. Frances Hospital, Tulsa, OK. Roman was 82 years old at the time of his death.
Those left behind are sons, Solomon and Frances Watashe of Kellyville, OK; Ben and Marlene Watashe of Pine Hill, NM; Floyd, Jr and Diann Marshall of Tulsa, OK; Kenny and Donna Marshall of Tulsa, OK; Sheila Hagie of Holdenville, OK; brother-in-law, Tim Brown of Sapulpa, OK and sister-in-law, Barbara Brown of Okmulgee, OK; 25 grandchildren, Solomon Watashe, Jr and Stephanie Mosquito, Holly Watashe Butler and Brandon Butler, Alicia Watashe Gibson and Adam Gibson, Natasha Watashe and Titus Grimes, Anderson (Andy) Watashe and Donie Grace Pewo, Thomasine Watashe, Nicole Watashe and Cody Morris, Ben Watashe, Jr, Eben Watashe, Jason Motto Marshall, Lucy Marshall, Kathy Marshall, Christopher Marshall, Raquel Martinez and Nocona Clark, Austin Cervantes and Torie James, Justin Cervantes and Aliyah Ashley; and 19 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel George, Soloman III, Yah-pon-na Watashe, Lillian Miss Mae Butler, Brandon, Jr, Ronnita Butler, Lilah Freddie Gibson, Alan Cole, Meezhinga Roy, Jourdan Thompson, Jadalynn Morris, Nevaeh Morris, Ethan Marshall, Nylah Blackwell, Caique Clark, Mieah Clark, Shaddix Clark, Arthur Marshall and Penelope Blackwell.
Roman joined the U.S. Marine Corps after his active duty discharge, he joined the 45th Army National Guard of Oklahoma until Honorable discharge on the 5th day of May 1980. Working as an Electrician Journeyman at Liberty Glass Plant, Security Officer, Creek County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, and a Muscogee Creek Nation Lighthorseman Police Officer.
Roman attended school at Euchee Mission Boarding School in Sapulpa, Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte, OK and Kellyville School in Kellyville, OK.
Roman was a member of the Methodist Indian Pickett Chapel and Life long member of Polecat “Kellyville” Euchee Ceremonial Grounds.
Roman was a Full Blood Euchee Indian. Roman had served as Chairperson on the Kellyville School Indian Title IX Parent Committee and member of National Indian Education Association and the Oklahoma Indian Education Association.
Roman will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Wake service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, January 31, 2019 with Funeral services following at 2 pm on Friday, February 1, 2019 both being held at Community Indian Baptist Church, Sapulpa, OK. Interment to follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens, Sapulpa, OK. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, 1208 S Main St, Sapulpa, OK.
