Roberta Louise Bassham Stanley, 94, of Sapulpa, passed away August 7, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. She was born in Hilton, Okla., May 7, 1926, to Earl Leondist Bassham and Jessie Berdella Bassham (Spiller). Louise married her husband of 69 years, William “Bill” James Stanley, on January 19, 1946 after his return from serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
She spent nearly her whole life in the Sapulpa area and was a housewife and devoted mother until her only child, Mike, started school. She then had jobs at Miller’s Grocery and Pickle’s Supermarket as a cashier and finally worked in the Creek County Clerk’s office as an administrative assistant until she retired. She was an avid Oklahoma University fan and watched all games on TV and attended many games with friends until her later years. Louise always had a smile for everyone and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son, Michael DeWayne Stanley (Liz) of North Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren Jeffery Carl Stanley (Lynn), of Mounds, Okla.; Jenniefer Sue Henderson (Harold) of Sapulpa; Kevin Michael Stanley (Rachelle) of Little Rock, Ark.; and Brian Christopher Stanley of Little Rock, Ark.; great-grandchildren Garrett Stanley, Lauren Armstrong, Madison Armstrong, Kindra Copeland, Casey Copeland (Jessica), Kenny Henderson and Halie Henderson; and Louise’s only great-great-grandchild, Jentry Sue Copeland (22 months).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died April 15, 2015; sisters Wilma Jean McClanahan and Betty Ethel Glenn and brother William Earl Bassham.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Smith Funeral Home at 1208 S. Main in Sapulpa. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Green Hill Cemetery in Sapulpa.
