Robert DeWayne Beesley was born November 20, 1970 in Tulsa Oklahoma. Growing up, “Bert” loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He hated school because in his words QUOTE – you don’t need an education to hunt and trap. He alluded to the fact that you didn’t really need a job because Grandpa Glen Harris didn’t have one, of course he was retired.
He was a curious little boy. He also loved to tear things apart to see how they worked. The problem was, he could never put them back together, and if he did manage to get them back together, they no longer worked.
He loved animals. When he was about 8, he was dog-sitting a St. Bernard for some friends. That St. Bernard chased him to one side of the yard and the to the other side. As he ran by the back door, he would stop long enough to knock, then he would keep on running. When he ran, he pumped his arms. As he ran what he called “faster” his feet moved the same, but his right arm would go twice as fast. That went on for about five minutes. But he still loved that dog! Several years later, when he lived on the farm, he got a golden retriever. He named the dog “Bert” after himself. He worked on the farm hauling hay and feeding cows. He was industrious – he, along with Danny Jr., talked Aunt Judy into driving the hay truck because when she stopped the truck due to the motor overheating, she would get out and move the bales closer to the truck while they loaded. He was a pig farmer – he had 1 pig, later we had bacon.
He graduated from Liberty High School in 1989. “Rob” entered the US Navy on October 1, 1990 and graduated from the boot camp that November and was assigned to the USS Carl Vinson and was stationed in Bremerton Washington where he learned the telecommunications trade. On one of his leaves, rumor has it that he asked a couple of his female cousins to pose in a picture with him so he could show his buddies what “Real Women” looked like. Later the Carl Vinson was deployed on the WESTPAC tour. He was honorably discharged as a Fireman E3.
Like several of his uncles and cousins, he LOVED OU Sooner and Dallas Cowboy football. All he could talk about all week was the OU game on Saturday and then the Dallas game on Sunday. If they lost, he had no time to talk.
Robert is survived by his two children from his marriage to Shanon Morrison, Taylor and Aaron, both of Sapulpa, his parents Ted and Carolyn Beesley, of Beggs, his sister Theda Boydston, her husband Kevin, and their daughters Chelsi, Adria, and Kyla Jane, of Beggs, and Grandmother Dorothy Harris, also of Beggs, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Walter and Nadine Downs, Henry and Esther Beesley, and Glen Harris.
