Peggy Jean (Williams) Wilson transitioned from this life on earth to receive her Heavenly Father on December 13, 2021 at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Peggy was born July 16th 1934 to Opal T. and Clarence Williams. She was born in Drumright Oklahoma and spent her childhood growing up on an oil lease attending Drumright Schools until the 9th grade. At that time her family moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma where she attended Sapulpa Public Schools and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1952. After graduation, Peggy was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone as a telephone operator. On April 2, 1954 Peggy wed Gene Wilson. They were married 41 years before Gene’s death in 1995. On October 24, 1955 their only child, daughter Pamela, was born. Peggy resigned from Southwestern Bell to become a stay at home mom. Over the years she was very active in the Women’s Bowling League and also was a member of the Sapulpa Ladies Golf Association.
One of Peggy’s favorite quotes was from Shakespeare, “All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.” Peggy played many parts–a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt…but she will probably be remembered the most as being a caregiver to many family members and friends. For a time she helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels and whenever anyone needed help they knew they could count on Peggy to be there.
Peggy was very much interested in Genealogy. It became an adventurous past time for her over the years. Before Gene passed, they would travel to many small towns in surrounding states visiting libraries, distant relatives, and cemeteries. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow, they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead breathing life into all who have gone before. They are the story tellers of the tribe. Peggy was one of the chosen. Genealogy was her passion but once said “it was a hobby that was never ending”. She researched extensively and enjoyed sharing the information with whoever was interested. She was always excited to hear from others searching for their ancestors and to find out if and how she was connected to them.
Another favorite past time of Peggy’s was working the crossword puzzle and cryptogram in the Tulsa World every day. She was a master at both puzzles.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Gene Wilson, parents Clarence Williams and Opal T Williams, brothers Clarence (Blackie) Williams, Jr., Johnnie Dale Williams, Jackie Dean Williams, and granddaughter Erin Layne Haught. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Haught and husband Jim of Broken Arrow, grandson Matthew Haught and wife Jennifer of Coweta, great grandsons Logan Haught, Fayetteville, Ark., Lucas Haught, Lawson Haught, and Layton Haught, all of Coweta, grandson Tyler Haught and wife Tarah and great grandson Connor Haught all of Broken Arrow.
Peggy was baptized at the Ridgeway Baptist Church in Sapulpa on April 10, 1960 and later moved her church letter to Sapulpa First Baptist Church.
Two of her favorite scriptures were:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”.
John 14:2 “In my father’s house are many mansions; If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
