Norman Bruce Montgomery, 85 years old passed from this earth, Monday, December 3, 2018 in Tulsa, OK, from complications of pneumonia. Formally of Sapulpa, he currently lived in Claremore, OK at the Claremore VA Center.
Born on December 22, 1932 in Springfield, MO to Charles Montgomery and Dorothy Dyer Montgomery. He had three siblings, oldest brother Danny, youngest brother Charles, and sister Mary. He attended Bowden Elementary School and then Sapulpa High School where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Smith. They were married July 3, 1953 for 64 years and had 3 children, William (Bill) Montgomery, infant daughter Paula Gail Montgomery, and daughter Lee Ann Montgomery Duncan.
Norman was a veteran having served in the US Army in Korea. He was a member of the 204th Field Artillery from March 9, 1953 through December 1955. While in Korea, he was decorated with the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He obtained the rank of CPL November 17, 1954.
After returning home, Norman worked for McDonnell Douglas for several years before going to work for Carnation Milk Company. For many years he was known for being Sapulpa’s door to door milkman. He later retired at the age of 75 from Cintas uniforms.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy, and by his siblings Danny Montgomery, Charles Montgomery, sister Mary Fisher, infant daughter Paula Gail and wife of 64 years, Phyllis Ann Montgomery. He is survived by son Bill Montgomery; daughter Lee Ann Duncan and husband Dennis; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 at Green Hill and Services will be at 2:30 Wednesday in the Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel.
