Mike Russell at the age of 52, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Hillcrest Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born on April 5, 1965 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jimmie and Kathy Russell of Mounds. He graduated Mounds High School in 1983. He was employed at Fabsco as a machinist until injured in a motorcycle accident on June 9, 1991 that left him a quadriplegic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and tinkering with anything with a motor. He really enjoyed being outside. He will be remembered for his giving nature. He was always helping someone. He taught many of his son Colton’s friends how to work on their cars and motorcycles. They were his hands and he told them what to do. Several made the comment that he had changed their lives in a positive manner.
He is survived by his sons, Colton Russell of the home, Walter Smith and wife Denise of Shawnee; daughter, Heather Schwartz and husband Jesse of Sapulpa; five grandchildren, Amy, Lydia, Chloe, Zoey, and Brooklyn Schwartz; parents, Jimmie and Kathy Russell of Mounds; siblings, Don Russell and wife Barb and their children of Sapulpa, Karen Chavous and husband Randy and their children of Glenpool; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Shawn Russell; grandparents, George and Rosalie Smith of Mounds and Fred and Juanita Smith of Sapulpa.
The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:00am at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of life will follow at the Sapulpa Public Library in Frank Hall. Everyone is invited to share food and memories.
