Mae Nabozny

Mae Lavon (Hausner) Nabozny, 90, of Sapulpa, died October 23, 2019. She was born July 24, 1929, to Athol Herman and Mae (Breeding) Hausner in Zoe, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of seven children, which might explain why she left home at the age of 16 and set off on her own.

Mae (or Lavon, as her family called her) eventually made her way to Tucson, Arizona, where she soon met a handsome young member of the Army Air Corp from Pennsylvania. Mae and Bob were married one month later. She was 17, and he had just turned 19. They had been married for over 72 years at the time of her passing. Mae and Bob raised three children: Jane Johnson (husband Stan) of Sapulpa, Linda Sander (husband Carl) of Phoenix, and David (wife Jan Comer) of Sapulpa.

Mae held a number of jobs in her life, including working for two different State Farm agencies; selling real estate; hanging wallpaper—all of which she excelled at—and finally buying, refinishing, and selling antique furniture.

In addition, she volunteered with a number of organizations. including the Jaycee Jaynes, the Salvation Army, Meal on Wheels, the Sapulpa Public Library, and Caring Community Friends.

She loved the outdoors and was widely known for her beautiful gardens. She also enjoyed fishing—but only if the fish were biting—and walking through neighborhoods to see other people’s landscaping attempts, which seldom matched her own. Her favorite pastime was reading. Even though she left school at an early age, many people assumed she was college educated, a result of her voracious reading. he also instilled a love of reading in all her children, a gift for which they are very grateful.

Mae Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Jackie, Herman, and Jimmie Hausner; and one nephew, Eugene Spencer.

In addition to her husband Robert and their children, Mae is survived by three grandchildren: Dalynn Gaspard (husband Scott), late of Austin Texas; Sondra (better known as Sunni) Wolff (and husband Travis); and Johnathon Nabozny (and wife Cherie) She also has three great-grandchildren: Lauren Lazo of New York City. Asher Wolff, and Liv Nabozny.

She is also survived by her sister, Jane Spencer of Sapulpa; two brothers, Jerry Hausner (wife Marty) of Sapulpa, and Wilbert Hausner (wife Susie) of Hectorvile; sister-in-law, Freda Hausner of Watonga; and many nieces and nephews.
