Katherine Hankins

Katherine A. Hankins was born on August 21, 1931 to Richard E. and Violet C. Whitmore in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and passed on from her home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to be in Heaven on January 18, 2021. Katherine married the love of her life, Meredith “Gene” Hankins, Sr. on March 28, 1948 in Flat Rock, Arkansas. They enjoyed a wonderful life together until Gene’s passing on November 29, 1986 at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and her sisters and brother; Dorothy Craig, Alice Colsen, Edna, Dick Whitmore and Margaret Breeden. She is survived by her two sons, Meredith Gene, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia and Richard Emery and his wife Patty Sue Alston Hankins of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She had three grandchildren: Kenny Gene of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Duane Emery of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Katrina Lea Hendricks of Glenpool, Oklahoma. She has six great grandchildren. Katherine was a member of Beaver Street Baptist Church, Jenks, Oklahoma. She and Gene were youth directors at two different Baptist churches in the Sapulpa area. Katherine enjoyed going to Falls Creek Baptist Church Camp as a Youth Counselor and cook of the camp. She perfected the making of homemade cinnamon and dinner rolls. She was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ as her savior and raised her children to follow Him also. Katherine retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1986, where she was a telephone operator in Sapulpa with subsequent promotion to the business office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After retirement from SW Bell Telephone, she worked in the home babysitting children that she grew to love as her own. Each of those children she took care of on a weekly basis. She loved to work with ceramics and could crochet some of the most beautiful afghans and other items as a hobby. She was an ardent fan of Oklahoma University football. Gene and Katherine would take the motorhome to home games, loving the atmosphere with other OU tailgaters. The Celebration of her life will be held at Green Hill Funeral Home in Sapulpa on January 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm with interment in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 24th from 1-4 pm at Green Hill with the family in attendance from 1-3 pm to greet friends. The following will honor her as her pallbearers: Norman Latham, Shannon Latham, Randy Parker, Reverend John Hall, Duane Hankins, Josh Hendricks and Everett Breeden. Green Hill Funeral Home
