Joyce Stubblefield

Joyce Seanith Stubblefield was born December 22, 1928 to Seamon and Julia Irene (Kuykendall) Smith in Bristow, Oklahoma. She departed this life July 23, 2019 at the age of 90 years 7 months and 1 day.
Joyce or “Granny” as most would call her, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother. She married the love of her life, Don Stubblefield on October 18, 1947 and shared 45 wonderful years together.
She lived for her family. Often times she would tell us that she prayed for God to bless her with enough food to cook for her entire family every Sunday. That’s what she enjoyed the most in the world. She led a simple life on what she called “this here hill”, where she was so happy and content with working in the family meat shop along side her children and grandchildren. She loved to visit with her customers. All whom loved and adored Mrs. Stubblefield. She lived a selfless life, doing all she could to help others in need and she never expected anything in return. Often times she would take her customers and friends to her garden and send them on their way with corn, tomatoes, and okra. She said this was her way of tithing, giving from heart and those hard-working hands.
Joyce had an unwavering faith in God. She lived her life by the rules. Three of those rules that she loved to brag about, is that she never danced a dance, drank a drank, or smoked a smoke. Now brandy in her fruit cake didn’t count of course. She honored God in everything she did, especially when it came to guiding and advising her loved ones. She was never too busy to listen, and when asked for advice she would give it to you straight, in her special loving kind way. She always trusted that God would provide her with the words that she needed to say. She made sure all of her kids and grandkids had a relationship with God. She taught them right from wrong and would get after them with her Granny Switch when they wouldn’t get along.
Joyce loved working in the garden where she would plant rows of crops for days. When shucking time came around it was a full family affair and Granny would call you up to tell you she expected you there. She loved listening to gospel music, it played all the time in her house. She had a real passion for making ceramics, dolls, and beautiful headdresses for all of her granddaughters’ coronations but cooking for her family was her biggest joy. Her family and friends enjoyed so many Sunday dinners with all of her special recipes. Every child had a favorite and she could tell you just who liked what. She was so proud of the family she built with her husband, Don. Her family was her legacy. We were truly blessed to have this amazing incredible woman as our Granny. One day we will all be gathered around her dinner table again. We love you Granny. Rest in peace, for we will meet again.
She is survived by four children, Ronald Stubblefield (Debbie), Randall Stubblefield (Sharon), Faye Johnson (Danny) and Janelle “Pearl” Robertson (Rick) all of Bristow; seven siblings from Bristow unless noted, Nadine Plum (Charles), Louise Campbell, Janice Kennedy from Glenpool, Melton Smith (Juanita), Jackie Smith (Kathy), Clayton Smith and Charlie Smith; thirteen grandchildren, Jeff Winn, Bryan Plum, April Morrelli, Kenny Stubblefield, David Plum, Brandon Stubblefield, Joshua Boyer-Winn, Randy “Spud” Stubblefield, Lee Plum, Jolene Seller, Miranda Groom, Amber Monier and Andy Robertson; thirty four great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
