Jimmy Floyd Pickett

Jimmy Floyd Pickett, 84 of Wheeling, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 202,5 in Liza’s place.

He was born on May 5, 1940, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Floyd Jim Picket and Daisy Ethel Pickett Drake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Jean French; second wife, Dr. Vilja Crek Stein; and brother-in-law, Carl Rogers.

Jimmy is survived by his siblings, Bonnie Mae Rogers, of Sapulpa, Ok, Edgar Owen Picketts (Flo) of Texas, Patricia Hibbard of Inola, Ok, Tamara Pickett of St. John’s, AZ; Son, Jamie Hugh Pickett (Karen) of Los Angeles, CA; Grandchildren (Adopted), Jacy Horvath (Josh), Joshua Broverman (Jacy); many nieces and nephews, including, Tony (Sherri), Joe (Terry), Debbie (Russ), Wendell (Toni), Vickie (Don), Mike (Julie), Randy (Rhonda); stepchildren, Karen (John), Erik (Trish) and Larry (Catherine)

Jimmy was loved, nurtured, and educated by a village of intentional family members, including those in Evansville, Indiana; Kansas City, Kansas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Oklahoma; Kansas; and Florida. He also cherished his extended family in Pittsburgh and Wheeling, West Virginia.

His church family at St. Matthew’s and his gym family also provided unwavering support and care. Beyond borders, he formed deep connections with friends in Colombia, Indonesia, Australia, Estonia, and England. He was profoundly grateful for the trust, tolerance, and support of those whose healing journeys he was honored to share.

Jimmy’s life was enriched by love, music, art, books, nature, and the diversity of many cultures.

In his final chapter, he lived post-stroke and post-cancer diagnosis, which became an opportunity to be cared for by the very people whose journeys he had once supported. This time was made especially meaningful by his grandchildren, Joshua and Jacy, who not only were adopted by him but who, in turn, adopted him. Words cannot fully express how much they enriched his life during this chapter.

He was especially grateful for the example of colleagues and friends who dedicated their lives to caring for “the least of them,” who, in the end, will be revealed as “the greatest of these.”

Jimmy did not leave behind works of art, music, great words, or material possessions—he left behind a life full of blessings that he could never have earned alone.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday March 27, 2025 from 4 pm until the time of service at 7 pm at Kepner Funeral Home, Woodsdale, 900 National Rd., Wheeling (304-232-2732.
