James Dickens

James Alfred Dickens 63 of Sapulpa, OK went home to be with the Lord on February 19th, 2019 surrounded by his family.

James was born in December of 1955 at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, OK to James Lee and Ellen Letitia Dickens. He lived on his Uncle Roy’s oil land on Bennett Dairy Road with his parents and older sister Janice Dale. At the age of two, his younger brother Tommy Ray was born and soon after, they moved to Elizabeth St. and then Ridgeway St. in Sapulpa. When he was 14, they moved to a house on Lake Keystone. In his senior year, they left Lake Keystone moving to the family farm south of Sapulpa where he lived the rest of his days. He graduated from Prue High School in 1974 and soon after started working for Skelly Oil company in Tulsa.

In December of 1977, he met the love of his life Angela Maire Jackson and just 5 months later, in May, he proposed. They were married on September 2nd, 1978. Soon after, they moved together to their new home on the family farm. In April of 1986, they had their first and only child, James Doyle Dickens. In 1996, after over 21 years with Skelly Oil company, now Texaco Refining company, multiple positions and departments and two buyouts, the Tulsa offices of the company closed, and at age of 41 he made the difficult transition to full time college student while still supporting his family. He graduated two years later with an associates degree as an Electronic Engineering Technician. He then worked at Regent Printing for 9 months until finding a job at FlightSafety International in 1999 where he worked for over 19 years. After his father’s death, James and his family moved back into his childhood home on the family farm.

In December 2018, James was diagnosed with cancer and on the morning of February 19th, 2019 his family was informed that his time was short. Surrounded by family and friends, he drew his last breath on this earth.

He was a compassionate, caring, Christian man who loved his family dearly. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed working around the house and on cars and researching anything and everything. He was always working on one or more projects. He was the best husband, dad, brother and friend. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen and father James.

He is survived by his wife, Angie of over 40 years; his son, James and daughter-in-law Tracy; his sister, Janice and her husband Richard; his brother, Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews.Services will be Monday, February 25th at 2:00pm at Traditions Funeral Chapel, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, OK 74039. Graveside at South Heights in Sapulpa to follow.
