Fred Hamilton Powell was born on April 23, 1937 in Osage Oklahoma. He was the son of Austin Harry (Dutch) Powell and Stella Mae Estes Powell.
Fred grew up and completed his education in Osage Oklahoma. Fred Always joked that he graduated 5th in his Class. A class that just happened to have 5 people in it. In 1958 the new Keystone Lake took his family home requiring them to relocate to Cleveland.
Fred worked for Campbell and Thomas in Cleveland until entering the U.S Army in April of 1960. While in the Army, Fred was stationed at Fort Hood Texas and Fort Sill Oklahoma. Fred served his country during the Berlin Crisis. He served two terms in Germany. Fred also served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1966.
Fred married the love of his life Joyce Carol Donnelly November 4th, 1962 at Cleveland Church of the Nazarene. Living in Cleveland one month they moved to Tulsa where Fred accepted a job with J.C. Hamilton Company. In 1963 Fred accepted employment In Bethany Oklahoma with Aero Commander until 1964. That same year Fred would begin working for Oklahoma Natural Gas in Sapulpa. Moving to Sapulpa at that time. Fred worked the Sapulpa Area until 1980 when he transferred to Tulsa, working there until his retirement in 1999. Retiring with 35 years of service as A Senior Meter Technician.
Fred belonged to the ONG Ongoers Organization He truly enjoyed going to these meetings and visiting with his friends. One of
his favorite things to do was drink coffee every morning with his good friend Jack Huffman and who ever was able to drop in. He really enjoyed when former Coworkers would drop in on them.
Fred was a lifelong Nazarene. Becoming a member of Sapulpa Church of the Nazarene in 1999.
Fred was known to one and All as A “really good guy”. Not sure if anyone who ever drank coffee with him ever got to pay for a cup. Fred was always willing to help out anyone. And always had a smile to share.
Though Fred and Joyce had no children of their own. They took pride being the best Aunt And Uncle they could possibly be. Special niece’s Shelly Leaming and Mandy Davies along with nephews Chris Powell and Mike Hammock held very special places in Fred’s heart. And he they have a special place in theirs for their “Uncle Fred”.
Fred was proceeded in death by his wife Joyce. Parents A.H. And Stella Powell. Brothers Dale Estes and Bill Powell. Sisters Betty Moore, Shirley Allembaugh. Lou Johnson, And Patty Smith.
Fred is survived by his brother Austin Powell of Nowata Oklahoma and Sister Ruth Gilliland of Mathis Texas. Many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
