Erma June (Reed) Knight was born June 4, 1921 at Hilton Community. The Lord called Erma home on November 6, 2021.
Erma was the third of five children born to Fred Reed and Nancy Katherine (Holman) Reed, and the last surviving sibling. She was preceded by brothers Frank and Wayne, and sisters Iva Belle and Hazel (Reed) Hamilton.
Erma attended Hilton School through the eighth grade, then attended Jenks High School through her Junior year. She graduated Sapulpa High School in 1938. Erma married Laverne Ralph (Bill) Knight on September 7, 1942, and shortly after moved to Philadelphia with her soldier-husband, returning to Oklahoma about a year later, after Bill was sent to Europe to join the war against Nazi Germany. Following the defeat of the Axis powers, Bill returned and the couple made their home in Sapulpa, raising two sons here. After Bill’s death in 1985, Erma continued to make her home in Sapulpa, and lived independently until her passing.
A devout Christian, Erma was baptized in 1953, and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, and a member of the Builders Sunday School Class for nearly 70 years. She raised her sons in the church, assuring that they had a solid foundation of faith that would carry them through life challenges. Erma’s greatest earthly joy was her family, including many nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Erma leaves sons Orville Wayne and wife Jo, Billy Ellis and wife Pat, beloved niece Norma Jean (Reed) Wilson and nephews Danny and Larry Hamilton, Jerry and Wayne Reed, and niece Sherry (Reed) Hancock. Also grandchildren Christopher Knight and Sheri (Knight) Varnum, Michael Knight and Sherry Dawn (Knight) Dalman, Erin Green, and former daughter-in-law Ann (Bradford) Moss, and dozens of Great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews. Equally cherished, Erma leaves a large, much-loved and treasured church family, and many dear and special friends.
A celebration of her life will was at 10 am, Thursday, November 11 at the First Christian Church in Sapulpa.
