Edsel Raymond Welker took his first steps in his new Heavenly Home to be with the Lord on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. He was born August 21, 1936 in Nashoba, Oklahoma to Johnnie and Lucille Welker.
Edsel moved to Ft. Thomas, Arizona with his family around the age of 12. After completing high school in Arizona, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served for 6 years. He returned to Oklahoma after his service and married Florence Gregory and the couple settled in the Sapulpa area. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage and were blessed with 2 children. He worked for Safeway/Homeland in the warehouse, a Teamsters Union member, and retired after 30 years. He was a good provider for his family. Edsel was a kind, bighearted and affectionate man. He was good natured and enjoyed teasing everyone. He was a mentor to many young people in his capacity as a coach, umpire and referee for football, baseball, softball and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with kids and was always very involved in sports. Edsel also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing but his passion was music. He loved playing the guitar and had the opportunity to play with many people.
He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Lucille Welker; sister Lela Scarberry; and brothers Glen Welker and Donald Welker. Edsel is survived by his wife Florence Welker; daughter Kim Miller and husband Chip; son Steve Welker and wife Kelly; grandchildren Amanda Turnham and Mark Turnham, Holley Kimbel and husband Steven, Todd Miller, Braden Welker, Cody Stuart, Caitlyn Stuart and Aubrey Welker; great-grandchildren Briley Turnham, Daniel Turnham, Grace Kimbel, Isaac Kimbel and Emelia Welker; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Edsel’s family have many wonderful memories of time spent together. Those memories have become treasures. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Feb 20 from 2:00 PM at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel, Sapulpa 400 East Teel Road, Sapulpa
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb 19 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM with the family at the funeral home from 5-7 to greet friends at Green Hill Funeral Home Sapulpa 400 E. Teel Rd., Sapulpa
Edsel’s Final Resting Place is Green Hill Memorial Gardens 400 E. Teel Rd., Sapulpa
