Edna Mae Bennett, 89, of Sapulpa passed from this life on Monday, June 4, 2018 at home. Edna was born on Jan 1, 1929 to Harmon and Thelma James in Nola, Arkansas. She had four sisters and two brothers. She has one surviving sister, Bonnie Hyams and husband, Wayne Hyams. Also, one surviving brother, Tommie James.
Edna graduated from Bixby High School in 1945. She later met her future husband, Bill. They were married on July 30, 1949, he was 21 and she was 20 years old. They lived in Tulsa, OK.
Bill and Edna have three children, Joe, Jim and Darlene. Joe married Christy Allen of Poteau, they have two children, Justin Bennett of Bixby, OK, who has three sons, Jace, Porter and Baker Bennett and one daughter, Brooke (Bennett) Peaker of Tulsa, OK who has two sons, Trey and James. Jim married Tina Sumner, they reside in Jenks, OK, they have one child, Amanda Ford and she is married to Andy Ford and lives in Wister, OK, they have two children, Lily Bennett of Jenks and Fancy Ford of Wister, OK. Darlene married Billy Howk and they have one child, Melissa. We have recently lost Darlene, and she will be greatly missed.
Edna worked at American Airlines for a number of years, she helped Bill in the Pro Shop for many years. She loved operating a booth at the Tulsa Flea Market for over 30 years. She was known as the Doll Lady. She loved dealing in Barbies, she still has a large collection at home. Edna spent a lot of her time making the clothes for her dolls. There is one more thing she loved to do and that is play Bingo. Bill told me they played all over the State of Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 with Funeral services following at 10 am on Friday, June 8, 2018 both to be held at Smith Funeral Chapel, 1208 S Main St, Sapulpa, OK. Interment to follow at South Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa, OK. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, 1208 S Main St, Sapulpa, OK.
