Douglas Lee Warren, eldest son of Barbara Cosby and the late Bill Cosby, went to spend eternity with Jesus on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the age of 61. Doug was born in Sapulpa, OK on June 17, 1957 and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1975. He gave his life to Jesus as a boy at Westside Baptist Church under the preaching of his Grandpa, T. Howard Allen. He went on to serve his country in the Army, stationed in Giessen, Germany along with his dear life-long friend Jimmy Toombs.
After his time in the Army, Doug went to work with his Dad as a brick mason. Doug took much pride in his work and cherished the time he and Dad got to spend together even traveling to Hawaii for work. Doug could tell quite a story and there was always plenty to tell from the brick pile.
A serious work accident prematurely ended Doug’s work career but not his work. He was a faithful son who devoted himself to caring for his parents and was able to see them every day. Doug recounted how his accident was a blessing in disguise, God’s way of drawing him back while also allowing him time to help Mom and Dad. He kept a journal going back to 2015 of every doctor’s visit they had. Doug rededicated his life to the Lord and His service during this time. He was a faithful member of Pickett Prairie Baptist Church and worked the food pantry alongside his Dad until his health prevented him from doing so.
Doug was a quiet person but he had a great sense of humor. He was famous for his funny birthday cards and the family always enjoyed a big laugh when receiving one of Doug’s cards. Doug was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. He was fiercely loyal and loved his family and friends. His absence will leave a tremendous void but we take much comfort knowing he and Dad and other precious loved ones are waiting for us in Heaven.
Doug was preceded in death by his Dad and best friend, Bill Cosby.
He is survived by his precious Mother and wonderful care-giver, Barbara J. Cosby, Brothers Todd Cosby (LaNay) and Phillip (Shelia), Nieces Jymmi Hampton (Michael), Erin Williams (Dickie) and Melissa Wright (Justin) and Nephews Kyle Cosby (Alisha) and Luke Cosby. Doug is also survived by and grew up together with his Cousin Lana Collier of Katy, TX. Doug also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins and life-long friends who will miss his smile and big hugs.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dottie and Stephanie and the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful care for Doug these last weeks and to Dr. “K” and the staff at the VA Muskogee hospital. You all have been a blessing!
