Dorothy E. Mizell was born February 13, 1938 to Lonnie and Irene Alcorn in Slick, Oklahoma. She departed this life December 9, 2019 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 26 days. She had been a Bristow area resident most all her life.
“Dot” as she was known by most grew up in and around the Slick area. She was a graduate of Slick High School. Dorothy E. Alcorn and LaGene Mizell were united in marriage May 10, 1958 at First Church of God in Bristow, Oklahoma. It was then that life’s adventure truly began; three children were born to this union each echoing the love, laughter and adventure their life together had created. They spent nearly fifty years together before his passing in April of 2008. Though Dot spent thirty-nine years working as a secretary for the soil conservation office in Bristow, she always made time for her family and friends. Time spent with her grandchildren filled her heart with joy. Countless hours were spent knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. Many of her family have been gifted a quilt. She always had a welcoming smile and a kind word for all; she enjoyed seeing everyone at the sale barn café, where she was known for her homemade pies. She served the Lord faithfully with her family in Christ at Faith Baptist Church in Slick, Oklahoma.
Dot is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Varner and husband Jeff of Bristow, Diana Mizell of The Colony, Texas; one son, Mike Mizell of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Betty Schivally and husband Gerald of Bristow and Nancy Harrold of Ft Gibson; six grandchildren, Joey Varner and wife Kira, Samantha Palmer and husband Justin both of Bristow, Bobby Mizell of Plano, Texas, Allison Mizell of Carrollton, Texas, Ashley Docherty of El Paso, Texas and Ryan Docherty of Carrollton, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Kadence, Piper, Jaxson and Grayson Varner, Colby, Addison and Stetson Palmer all of Bristow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, LaGene Mizell; six sisters, Patricia Burton, Nona Williams, Reba Provence, Maxine Lane, Reta Huntsinger and Lonnie Hohensee; two brothers, Leonard “Sonny” Alcorn and Allen Alcorn, and one daughter in law, Lisa Mizell.
