Doris Jean Thomas

Doris Jean Thomas of Jenks, Oklahoma was received into the arms of her Savior on January 6, 2024, at the age of 91. Doris was born on February 24, 1932, to Herbert and Dorothy Lauer in their home in Kiefer, Oklahoma.

Her birth was miraculous as she was born dead and left as such, until a neighbor resuscitated her. Because of this act of compassion, Doris has left the amazing legacy of family. She was the youngest of three children, her siblings being Bill and Elaweese. As a young girl, Doris attended Pleasant Porter grade school, then graduated from Daniel Webster High School. She met her husband Clarence while she was in grade school, where he showed his affection by dipping her long braids in the inkwell on his desk. They got married on August 29, 1952, and shared almost 64 years of marriage. Early on in their marriage, Doris worked for Leland Equipment Company as a secretary. After having their first child, she stayed home to raise her children. They were blessed with 4 children, 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, all because two people fell in love. They shared a love for creating stained glass artwork and took classes at Tulsa Stained Glass. One of her master pieces can be found on display in the prayer room at Angus Acres Baptist Church in Sand Springs. She was a member of the Master Gardener Association, for which she completed classes at Oklahoma State University. Doris enjoyed golfing, sailing, traveling and plenty of Bluegrass music. She and Clarence were part of the STP (Seasoned to Perfection) group of Bluegrass enthusiasts. Her French Bread, her jalapeño jelly and her spiced pickles were her favorite of her culinary treats. Their little cabin in the woods, always warm and welcoming; often with the smell of something yummy in the making, will always be a part of the memory of her and the time spent with the family.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Allan Thomas, her son Steven Scott Thomas, her sister Elaweese Covert, her brother Bill Lauer, her parents Herbert and Dorothy Lauer, and her daughters in law Janet Thomas and Cindy Thomas.
