Donna Jean (Souders) Doak was born March 17, 1930. She graduated to heaven April 25, 2020
Born in Perkins, Oklahoma as the only child of Ferrell Glen (“Sod”) and Mae Ruth (“Ruth”) Souders, Donna loved music and dancing as a child. She graduated from Bristow High School in 1948 and then caught the train to Tulsa to attend Draughon School of Business where she learned accounting, switchboard, typing and shorthand – skills that served her well in her working career. Donna married her high school sweetheart Richard Lee Doak in 1951 and two daughters were born of this union – Karen Lynn and Linda Kaye.
Donna was bookkeeper at the family’s American Supply Company, an oilfield supply store in Stroud, for many years. Later as her husband entered the ministry, Donna became a faithful partner in serving the churches where they were called to lead. Her piano playing was loved by many and the hours she spent playing gave her great joy. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, especially homemade bread, and she loved cats. The family’s home in Bristow was often filled with young people, laughter, and music, and Donna was always happy to be in the center of the excitement. Her family was precious to her and she will be greatly missed.
Donna leaves behind a loving family including her two daughters Karen (Doak) Lee and husband Danny, Linda (Doak) Holderby Trigalet and husband Louis Joseph (“Joe”), granddaughter Melissa Holderby (husband Jacob “Jake” Manus, children Autumn, Aislinn, and Aedan), granddaughter Erin Willeford (husband Jeffrey “Jeff” Willeford, children Hudson and Madison), best friend Violet Hayes, a large extended family, and many friends. The final years of Donna’s life were spent at the Stroud South Nursing Home and the workers and owners, cooks and employees there became a family to our family. We love them and appreciate their wonderful care of our mom. They truly became her second family and blessed us beyond words.
We know, without a doubt, that Donna is playing and singing with the choirs in heaven this day. We also know that one day, we’ll join her there. Death has no sting for us because we have confidence that “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” we will join her for eternity. Great is His faithfulness! A private family service was held in Donna’s honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you find someone today or tomorrow who you can help – whether that means sending a card, doing some chalk art, buying someone’s order at the drive-through line or making a call to check on a friend. Your actions would honor our family greatly.
