David Leon Campbell was promoted to the Kingdom of Heaven June 6, 2020, following a brief, but dignified bout with Brain Cancer.

David exuded peace and grace as he traveled his journey through Death’s Shadowed Valley into the gates of Heaven.

David was born on March 24, 1940 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Lonnie and Mildred Campbell. His childhood consisted of many moves to many towns in California, Oklahoma and Texas. As a child he lived one block from his future wife, and the love of his life, Sara Whittenton; and did not even realize it until they officially met in Sapulpa High School, where they both graduated in 1958.

David served in the United States Navy as a Guided Missile Technician upon the U.S.S. Springfield. He sailed over much of the world, but spent the majority of his duty in the Mediterranean. Throughout his life, he often spoke, with pride, that is was an honor to serve this great land that he loved. During the final years of his life, he was unable to speak of America or the military without a tear in his eye.

After his service was completed, he returned to his favorite town, Sapulpa, Oklahoma to marry his favorite girl, Sara, and became a family man.

As a very talented artist, he worked for several companies employing his talents, including Charlie-O Cards, creating greeting cards; and Bartlett Collins, designing glassware. He then was selected by American Airlines to work as an Illustrator. This was before computer graphics; therefore, all of his intricate drawings were freehand. He retired after 29 years of service in 1995. He enjoyed retirement very much and often stated, “I may be retired, but I now work full-time as a pain in the butt.”

David was an accomplished Hunter, amassing a large collection of trophies such as bear, wild boar, ram, deer, turkey and more, that adorned the walls of his den… which made it very difficult for his daughter to get asked out on a second date during her high school years.
In reality, David was student of nature, finding God’s beauty in the great outdoors, which he enjoyed his entire life.

David was proud of his Scottish heritage and marched in the Scottish Games, carrying the beautiful green and blue tartan of “Clan Campbell.”

David was a dedicated student of Bible Doctrine and attended classes at SouthPark Bible Church, studying, in depth, from the original languages of scripture.

This solid doctrinal foundation is the source of the supernatural, overabundance of happiness and peace that David experienced the final month of his life. From the moment of his diagnosis, he was relaxed and often stated, with strong appreciation, “I am in the hands of the Father and I know that from the nanosecond I leave my body, I will be face to face with the Lord.”

David was showered with love from family and friends during his final weeks and left this earth with no undone business.

David lived life until he died.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sara; Son, Scott Campbell and daughter-in-law, Michelle; Daughter, Becky Miller and Son-In-Law, Jeff; Grandsons: Joey Campbell, Casey Campbell (wife, Laura), and Isaac Miller (wife, Karla); Great Grandsons: Mason and George Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends with “family” status: Michael Arnold, R.K. Lyon; and Donny Roberson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beautiful sister, Carol Warren; and his precious grandbabies Jakey and Olivia.
