Billy R. Hill 92, of Sapulpa died on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at his home. Bill was born February 19, 1928 in Seminole, OK to Richard Orril and Myrtle Jane (Ernst) Hill. He graduated from Sapulpa High School.
Joining the Navy in 1946, he served four years spending time in Hawaii and Japan. He was honorably discharged in April of 1950. When he came home from work one day a few months later, his mom told him he had received a letter, to which he replied, “oh, is it a love letter?” That’s when he learned he had been called back to active duty. He then served in the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Orleck. While home on a brief leave, he married Mary Ann McGuire on December 9, 1950. He was honorably discharged again from active duty in November of 1951, continuing his service on reserve duty until April of 1954.
He and Mary Ann had five children they raised in the home he built in Sapulpa. Mary Ann passed away after 43 years of marriage. He then married Carolyn J. Sargent and they recently celebrated 26 years of marriage.
Bill loved his career in the Elevator Constructors Union. After retiring from Schindler Elevator in 1990, he lived life to the fullest. He made his dream trip to Alaska in the summer of 1994, travelling three months round-trip in his motor home. The remainder of his retirement was spent working on projects, travelling, fishing, camping, or spending time with family. His favorite camping/fishing spot was at Keystone Lake where he spent many days jug fishing for catfish. He also enjoyed time on his patio taking care of Koi fish in the pond he built.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann, son David Lee Hill, sisters Katherine Foshee and Adeoline Dammeier.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; children Patricia Speer (Bob), Kathy DeLancy (Kenny), Mike Hill, Tammie Frazier (Kevin), Cindi Hampton (Joe), and Alan Sargent (Becky).
