Betty J. McKenzie
March 21, 1926 – January 28, 2019
Our loving Mother went home to be with the Lord Monday evening, January 28, 2019, at Regency Woodland Assisted Living in Salem, OR.
Betty was born on March 21, 1926 to Thomas Jefferson Jared Sr. and Laura Maude (Roberts) Jared in Ada, OK. She attended school in the Allen, OK community. On February 14, 1946 she married the love of her life Odie B. McKenzie. They were married 59 years before Odie’s passing in 2005. They attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Sapulpa, OK most of their married life where lifelong friends became like family. After her and Odie moved to Salem, OR to be near their children they attended the Creekside Church of God of Prophecy in Salem, OR. In later years Betty was associated with The Church of God also in Salem, OR.
Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading (especially her Bible), and always preparing meals for friends and family. But most of all she enjoyed being with her family and serving the Lord through giving to missions and serving as Sunday School Class teacher and Ladies Mission Leader.
Betty is survived by her son Edward E. McKenzie (Karen McKenzie) of Silverton, OR, daughter Gayla J. Shoff (Lyal Shoff), granddaughter Tricia Treadwell (Jason Treadwell), two great granddaughters Grace Treadwell and Faith Treadwell of Salem, OR., one brother, Clive Jared of Coweta, OK and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Odie B. McKenzie, her parents Thomas J. and Laura Maude Jared, four sisters Boda Sliger, Bonnie Williams, Leta Mae and Lena Faye Jared, four brothers Howard Jared, Ralph Jared, T. J. Jared Jr. and Harold Wayne Jared.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, February 7, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at City View Funeral Home, 390 Hoyt St. S, Salem, OR.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 1301 Neahkahnie St SE, Salem, OR 97306. Interment to follow at City View Cemetery, Salem, OR. and back to the church for fellowship and reception.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of City View Funeral Home, 390 Hoyt St. S., Salem, OR.
