New Parks Director picked Sapulpa

Sapulpa Times recently interviewed Sapulpa’s new Parks and Recreation Director, Carson Lynch. He began his career in Moore, Oklahoma, where he first served as Assistant Parks Director, and later became Director. Lynch has also served as President of the Oklahoma Parks and Recreation Society.

After marriage, he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he said he was “holding out for the right job. Sapulpa popped up and I was impressed with everyone I talked to. I was very impressed with the interview process and I knew John [Waytula] had been here a long time and I respect John.” In fact, Lynch stated that any place that could keep John so long must be a good place to work.

When asked what his vision is for Sapulpa Parks, he said his immediate vision is to carry forward the bond issue projects in progress and to kick start those not yet begun.

Lynch said he felt the new facilities he inspected were in excellent shape, but intended to work on older ones such as the older playgrounds.

The new Director was pleasantly surprised to find that the employees were quite friendly and receptive to a new administrator. “It was easy to quickly get comfortable with them,” he said.

Lynch is a consummate grant writer, having written successful grants for trails and the Land Water Conservation Fund. He is currently working on a Hickory to Jefferson Heights trails grant.

Carson holds a Bachelors in Political Science and a Masters in Leisure Administration, and is a man of many talents. He has volunteered for Special Olympics for many years and most recently was a special education teacher at Kendall-Whittier Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Former Parks Director John Waytula told Sapulpa Times that he worked with Carson at the ORPS and it was his personal opinion that Lynch would be a tremendous asset to the City of Sapulpa.
