Route 66 Comics & Collectibles, 17 S. Park St. in Sapulpa, will host a 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 book signing event for “Staying Gold: The Oral History of The Outsiders.”
The book’s co-authors (Danny Boy O’Connor, founder of the Outsiders House Museum, and Jimmie Tramel, pop culture writer at the Tulsa World) will be present for the signing.
A limited number of books will be available. To guarantee a copy, you can pre-purchase a book at Route 66 Comics & Collectibles and return with it for the signing event.
“Staying Gold: The Oral History of The Outsiders” will be released Tuesday, Nov. 4 by Viking Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
The 406-page book is a definitive walk through the history of “The Outsiders.” It delves into S.E. Hinton’s classic young adult novel, Francis Ford Coppola’s star-launching 1983 shot-in-Tulsa film, the creation of the Outsiders House Museum and the adaptation of “The Outsiders” into a Tony Award-winning musical.
More than 100 people were interviewed for the book, including Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Leif Garrett and Hinton. Diane Lane provided written material for the book.
“As a lifelong fan, I’m honored to help connect the dots and co-create the oral history of The Outsiders,” Connor said. “Opening The Outsiders House Museum sparked a wave of momentum that renewed the world’s love for the book and film and gave us the perfect moment to tell this story in the words of those who lived it.”
Said Tramel: “I love oral history books because they can make readers feel as if they are eavesdropping on a once-in-a-lifetime group conversation. It’s an honor to be asked, along with Danny Boy O’Connor, to share the oral history of something as iconic as The Outsiders.”
