Two Creek County Ambulance employees were sent to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while working a rollover accident on the Turner Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol says that accident was one of several on the same stretch of road that altogether resulted in four separate people being struck by vehicles on the turnpike.
Creek County Ambulance was responding to a rollover accident on between Bristow and Stroud when a vehicle lost control and hit their medic standing outside the ambulance, and then crashed into the ambulance itself, where another employee was tending to a patient.
“One has a fractured ankle and leg,” said Kerry Harlin with Creek County Ambulance. “The other was tossed around inside the ambulance and ended up with a concussion.”
Thankfully, all of the injuries were non-life-threatening, and the employees were transported to the hospital—along with the patient they were assisting—where they are being treated.
About half an hour later, another Creek County Ambulance, assisting with another wreck on the same turnpike was struck by a different car. “Both of the employees at that accident were able to get out of the way, but we lost that second ambulance,” Harlin said.
“MOVE OVER OR SLOW DOWN FOR FLASHING LIGHTS,” a Facebook post by Oklahoma Highway Patrol read, this afternoon. “We cannot stress this enough. Any of these situations today could have easily resulted in the loss of a life.”
