Most city councilors will run unopposed for the upcoming election

The second seat of each of Sapulpa’s five wards are up for election in 2024, and the deadline to file was last week. As is often the case, most of Sapulpa’s city councilors will run unopposed and win by default.

Of the five seats available, only two had challengers. That number was reduced to just one after one of the challengers withdrew their application for unknown reasons before the week was out.

City Councilor Brian Stephens has filed to retain his seat in Ward 2, and will be challenged by contender Sherry Capps for the April election. Sapulpa Times has reached out to Sherry Capps for comment on her filing.

Ward 5 was the other seat in Sapulpa City Council that initially had a contender with the filing of Pamela Ibbetson. As of December 8th, Ibbetson is listed as “withdrawn,” leaving incumbent Hugo Naifeh to win the seat again in an uncontested match.

Sapulpa’s City Council is a non-partisan commission that meets twice a month at City Hall on the first and third Monday. The election for Ward 2 will be held on April 2nd, 2024. The results of the filing are below:

  • Ward 1: Jeff Molina (incumbent)
  • Ward 2: Brian Stephens (incumbent), Sherry Capps
  • Ward 3: Marty Cummins (incumbent)
  • Ward 4: Richard Hudson (incumbent)
  • Ward 5: Hugo Naifeh (incumbent), Pamela Ibbetson (withdrawn)
