OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. James Leewright, R-Bristow, will continue to lead the Senate Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee for the next two years. Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, announced his choices for committee chairs, vice chairs and members for the 58th Legislature this past week.
“I want to thank Pro Tem Treat for his continued faith in my leadership and for the opportunity to serve. As someone who has created a business and been responsible for a payroll, I understand the challenges large and small businesses face as they navigate regulations and red tape while working to remain competitive and profitable,” Leewright said. “I also understand the importance of tourism as an economic driver in our state.”
In addition, Leewright will also hold seats on the Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee, Judiciary, Rules, and Appropriations.
“These are all areas that are extremely important to Senate District 12, and these committee appointments give me an opportunity to have an even greater role in shaping policy and budget decisions that impact our citizens,” Leewright said.
Although the 2021 legislative session doesn’t begin until Feb. 1, Leewright has been working throughout the interim holding studies and task force meetings on issues ranging from agency responses to the pandemic to efforts to expand rural broadband in Oklahoma.
Members will meet for an organizational day on Jan. 5 to formally elect leadership and adopt rules for conducting Senate business, including floor sessions, committee meetings and other operations for the next two years.
