Kellyville started their football season with a 36-20 win over Pawhuska on Friday night, but the glory of the win faded later that evening, as the community learned of the passing of Bill Scott, the Hall-of-Fame coach that took Bristow to three state championships.
Bill Scott’s son, Brent Scott, is head coach at Kellyville, and at least a part of the reason that the team saw such a resurgence last year after a slump of more than a decade.
According to Tulsa World writer Barry Lewis, Brent Scott learned of his father’s passing after the game against Pawhuska.
“He was a father to a lot of people, and a hero to a lot of people,” Brent told the Tulsa World.

Aside from being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987, Bill Scott coached over 50 high school players who later went on to play college ball.
Brent Scott said his impact was felt far and wide: “His impact was tremendous at Bristow, Tahlequah Sequoyah and Kellyville. He took care of so many players, gave them a chance and gave them all a chance at life.”
Kellyville held the lead at halftime at 16-13, and remained in the lead for the rest of the game, finishing at 36-20.
