Kellyville’s Freedom Festival shines bright over the weekend

Kellyville held its annual Freedom Festival, stretching from City Hall to the lot next to the Mounds Community Building.

There were arts and crafts vendors, snow cones, ice cream, and other warm weather food available, hoverball archery, a bounce house, ax-throwing, and an assortment of other games, rides on a homemade-train for the little children, and pony rides for the kiddies. The Warhorse Wrestling Team was selling items to raise money for the wrestlers, and the Creek County Republican Party had a booth. The Kellyville Fire Department had a dunk tank and one of the pumper trucks was spraying water in the oppressive heat, much to the delight of the children.

Last but not least, there was live music provided by the Joshua Yarbrough Band, which performed soul-stirring Blues numbers.

According to Mayor Jim Vogt, the day-time festival was a success. “This is the first year we had it set up here, we had been doing it down there at the school parking lot. We have a little more room to spread out, and we have air conditioning for those who need it. Yeah, I think it is working out really good. We have had a good turnout, a lot of participation.”

A fireworks show followed the carnival shortly after sunset. The pyrotechnics were launched from a field west of the high school. The show was quite impressive, especially for one put on by a small community. The thundering concussions from each launch announced the arrival of beautiful bursts of breathtaking colors in the stunning aerial displays.

All in all, the Kellyville Freedom Festival provided an afternoon of entertainment and a nighttime fireworks show that did not disappoint. See photos below.
