If your teen wears a uniform to school, here are some ways they can express themselves while respecting the rules.
Make a statement with shoes
Uniform rules often don’t concern shoes, so while footwear probably still needs to be approved, there’s a bit of wiggle room when it comes to patterns and colors. Just make sure to keep it tasteful.
Embellish with accessories
Most schools are happy to let students accessorize, within reason. Belts, necklaces, rings, earrings, watches and headbands are just some of the possibilities. Keep in mind that for activities such as sports and gym class, some piercings may need to be covered with an adhesive bandage so they don’t catch on clothing.
Adopt a unique hairstyle
A distinct hairstyle is a great way to stand out. Asymmetrical cuts are a fun way to change things up, as are temporary hair dyes. Keep in mind, however, that unnatural hair colors usually aren’t allowed.
Finally, remember that each school has its own rules, so make sure your teen reviews them before committing to their new look.
