Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1420 East Dewey Ave., hosted its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Tuesday evening, February 25th, in the parish hall.
The exact total of funds raised is unknown as of now, but we’re told that it’s “around $700”.
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday that is celebrated by eating pancakes. This celebration is also known as “Mardi Gras” or “Fat Tuesday.” It is the last day of “decadent” eating before fasting for Lent.
Supper included pancakes, sausage, and assorted drinks. Because it was all you can eat, many people requested a second serving.
The tables were replete with Mardi Gras decorations, and King Cake was available. The King Cake is a New Orleans tradition that involves a pastry, a small plastic baby hidden inside the cake, and a Mardi Gras party. The person who gets the slice with the baby in it has to purchase next year’s cake or host the next party.
Church members who organized the event were pleased with the turnout. The pancake supper is a fundraiser that helps provide money for the many outreach programs sponsored by Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, such as scholarships to Salvation Army kids camp, Sapulpa Public Schools Kids Closet, Community Dinner at Kelly Lane Park and others.
The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is an annual event that has occurred since the church’s inception 118 years ago.
