Former Sapulpa coach and teacher given deferred sentence after guilty plea

Former Sapulpa coach and teacher Tyler McGrew has been given a deferred sentence after pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge after his arrest in November of 2023.

As previously reported by Sapulpa Times, McGrew was arrested when a traffic violation resulted in police finding drugs in McGrew’s vehicle. He was immediately suspended by Sapulpa Schools and later resigned. His teaching certificate was suspended in May.

Until his suspension, McGrew had been a defensive coordinator, a teacher and a wrestling coach for Sapulpa Schools. Court records show that McGrew checked into a treatment facility in February.

McGrew was originally charged with drug trafficking, but those charges were later reduced. In a plea agreement, McGrew admitted to possession of oxycodone. His failure to yield charge was dismissed.

On May 15th, McGrew was given 1 year’s deferred sentence and made to pay a fine. So long as he abides by the terms of his probation, the charges will be dismissed at the completion of his sentence.
